Frequently Asked Questions

When do you take appointments?

Design/Tasting appointments are held for weddings and larger custom cake orders. Due to the busy lives of our clients, and the time constraints and deadlines we face, most appointments are made during business hours, Tuesday through Saturday. We try to accommodate everyone’s schedule, so please contact us and we will make every effort to work within your schedule.

Do I have to make a deposit to reserve my date? If so, how much is it and can I get a refund, if necessary? What is you payment policy?

Yes, you will need to make a $225 deposit to reserve your wedding date on our calendar. All deposits are date specific and are non-refundable.

How far in advance should I order a cake?

We often book up many weeks ahead of time, so the sooner the better to reserve your place on our calendar. To ensure availability we recommend booking six months to one year in advance of your event. We definitely attempt to accommodate last minute requests if our schedule allows, however. Please call or email to find out our availability for your particular date.

Do you make individual cakes, cupcakes and decorated cookies?

Yes we do custom designed cupcakes and individual cakes, starting at $3.99 per person.

Cookies start at $2.99 and up depending on design, size and packaging.

I have a special design in mind and have a picture of how I want my wedding cake to look. Will the Pastry Chef make it?

Absolutely! Your cake should be an expression of your individuality and vision. With your imagination and our skills, the possibilities are endless!

What is rolled fondant?

Fondant icing is porcelain smooth, malleable sugar dough made from sugar, water and corn syrup. It has a pure white matte finish and can be tinted to match just about any color scheme. It is laid over buttercream-iced cake as a decorative finish and incurs an addition charge. It has a neutral, sweet taste, much like marshmallows, but you can choose to enjoy it or leave it. We use a high quality fondant that does not change the overall flavor of the cake.

For a straight side cake how many tiers do I need?

This is a general guide for the number of tiers you will need for a round cake, based on how many people you would like to serve. This can be modified somewhat to produce a taller or stouter cake.

Do you provide flowers or other decorations?

Sweet Memories can provide a cascade of sugar flowers, fondant, marzipan, candied violets and buttercream flowers at an additional charge. At this time, fresh flowers must be provided by your florist. If the flowers are at the reception site cake table when we arrive, Sweet Memories will place them on the cake. If an excessive amount of floral set up is required, an additional fee will be charged for floral placement.

Do you offer tastings? How many people can I bring with me?

Yes, we offer a complimentary tasting and consultation. Although cake tasting is an element of your event that often times the whole family is eager to be a part of, we’ve found it’s a bit difficult to focus with too much input. Our studio can accommodate a total of six guests. Arrangements must be made in advance for more than four so that we are sure to have enough cake for your guests. At the tasting there will be a variety of cakes and fillings to try, however not all of our flavors will be available.

Is there a charge for the consultation? How long can we expect to be there?

There is not a fee for tastings. An hour is set aside for each client, which has proven to be ample time to both design and taste our cakes. Appointments are often scheduled before and after yours, so please plan to be on time so we have a full hour. Please keep in mind that cake samples are prepared specifically for your appointment. We ask for the courtesy of 48 hours notice if your appointment needs to be rescheduled.

What do I need to bring to our appointment?

It is helpful to bring elements from your event that you feel we can draw inspiration from such as pictures of your dress, the venue, invitations or floral choices. As you’re getting close to your appointment, we suggest gathering a variety of inspiration images: design motifs such as monograms, color swatches, china patterns or anything that catches your eye. If you’re not sure how you’d like to design your cake, don’t worry! We have hundreds of cake images for you to browse through and we have endless ideas. The design process is definitely a collaborative effort and we’ll keep going until you have a design you love.

What can I expect to pay for a wedding cake? Do you have a price list?

We do not have a general price list for wedding cakes because each cake is one of a kind. Most wedding cakes are priced per person. Small orders (typically anything under 75 servings) are priced per project.

Our pricing tends to average form $4.50-5.50 per serving. Ultimately, the price is based on the complexity of design, the time invested in its creation, the number of people being served and the ingredients used. Before you arrive for your consultation it is helpful to have a budget in mind for what you would like to spend on your cake. This will give us a better sense of what we can design for you.

What is your delivery area? What do you charge for delivery?

We are willing to travel anywhere that our cakes can safely be delivered. Please contact us to inquire about a specific location. Delivery fees are additional and are determined by distance round trip, time and the setup requirements for the cake. Deliveries that need to be there in a specific limited time window may incur additional fees. We also have a pick-up option for our wedding cakes.

What time should the wedding cake be delivered?

Delivery times vary depending on the weather, if your cake is inside or outside, in the sun, etc. We confirm with your reception site for delivery and room availability.

Can my wedding cake have more than one flavor?

Yes, you may choose from our selection of delicious flavors. However, we recommend that you order only one - two different flavors. Your guest will want to sample all the flavors and there is a chance that you may run out of cake.
